Sports filmmaking with the weight of the ring

This short portrait of boxer Allan Malla strips the sport down to its essentials: discipline, repetition and the silence before the bell. Shot in the gym rather than under fight-night lights, the film looks for the unglamorous hours that actually make a fighter — wrapped hands, worn leather, breath in cold air.

Visually, the film leans on hard side-light, negative space and a deliberate, almost still camera. Sound design carries as much of the story as the image: the rhythm of the bag, the rope, the exhale. It is sports filmmaking treated as portraiture — closer to a character study than to highlight reels.
